Learning more about twitter today and testing the functionality of twitter and facebook using tweetdeck. One issue I have with tweetdeck is it's ability to hug too much processor time on my PC. I have dropped out of it on several occasions because of this.

You may also want to turn your speakers down or off when notifications come in as this can be annoying.

Here's a snapshot of Tweetdeck to give you an idea of what the application looks like. The resolution isn't too good here. Something else to work on I suppose. :)

Remote revenge II – Chocolate in Amsterdam

The last post was all a bit of fun. My apologies go to ladies everywhere who can handle their buttons.

But, I imagine most of you prefer buttons of the chocolate kind. My wife does as you can see from the photo in the apartment.

She’ll kill me if she sees this but revenge is sweet. Check out the position of the remote control. As you can see, the box of chocolate balls (bigger than buttons) are closer to her heart than the remote. Soon after, she relinquished the remote without a fight.

The motto is – If you’ve got balls, trade them for buttons.

Remote Revenge

I'm often guilty of falling asleep with the TV remote tucked under my person. It's not a control thing or the fact that it’s good to have fingertip entertainment always close to hand. It's because there are far too many buttons on the remote for a woman to fully appreciate. With cable and satellite and the ever increasing number of channels, I’m sure you will agree.

But women love to press buttons. They are fascinated with them. Perhaps, it's their colour (color for women in the US)? Or maybe, it's the feel of the plastic under their thumbs.

Whatever the reason, we men must learn to relinquish them on occasion. This is especially important, when we are at our most vulnerable, after a few drinks, for example.

If she cannot find the remote, she will look for another source of thumbing entertainment. Keeping a supply of bubble wrap is sometimes the answer. However, if you do fall asleep on your TV remote, never leave a camera within easy reach of her grasp. The results can be catastrophic. Unlike the TV remote, with a camera, women only need to understand one button.

Are you thinking positively?

Do you remember playing with magnets at school? Do you remember school? If you do, then you'll know that opposite poles attract and like poles repel.

Think about this for a moment. Simple physics? OK. What about electricity? Same thing. Opposite charges attract and like charges repel. At the atomic level, Protons(+) and electrons(-) show exactly the same properties.

Consider 'positive' and 'negative' thoughts. Do you think the above principal still holds true?

If it does, there could be some interesting implications.

Do positive thoughts attract negative thoughts?
Are you thinking positively?

Links and Orphans

If you regularly update your website, I’m sure you check your external links. If you don’t or if it has been some time since you updated your site, check them now!

When I recently checked my external links, I found that many of the incoming links were no longer there. There are of course many reasons why this happens. Websites that are discarded or taken over by another person or company, websites that are moved, linking-in pages that are moved or have been deleted are all common reasons.
More worrying, are the websites that break the link from their site to yours deliberately. This is more common with websites that that have a reciprocal link agreement with you through one or more of the link exchanges. The idea being that one-way links increase their popularity vote with the search engines.

However, search engines are far more sophisticated than the people who use those tactics. If you come across a website like this, remove your link and forget about it. Your blood pressure and your health are far more important.

One type of link to be aware of is the ‘orphan’ link. Basically, this is a link from an ‘orphan’ page. Since no pages are linked to the ‘orphan’ page from the originating website, the spiders will fetch the ‘orphan’ page via the link on your website. Think of it as adopting someone else’ page for indexing. If there are other websites linking to this ‘orphan’ page, it’s a shared adoption. Perhaps the search engines should remove the page from the parent website. Or, better yet, the parent.
